« On every thing, the grabbing of time makes a work of art.(...) For a city, erosion creates a ruin. » (Gilles Clément)
A desk, a chair, few yellowed papers, an old map of the library site are the remains of what was once the lodge of a site supervisor. On the walls some rusty frames show photos from the site as it is now, but they all look old, stained and full of foxing. Feeling of time lag.
What is seen through the periscope is not the actual outside but a model of the site, hidden in a false ceiling. A fake periscope outside, on the top of the room, fullfills the illusion.
The beauty of the matter comes from the passing of time. Eroded, corroded, objects and buildings embody the concept of infinity : millions of micro-events have happened on their surface, depositing — as a silt — the remains of the laws that rule the world and the richness of the shapes of nature. Let the mosses invade the roofs, the ivy take the walls, let the paint flake off, the wood swell, the stone become polished under the footsteps, let a soul grow.
